Recommended Roads – 13 Bends, Bakewell
We’re lucky to live at the Staffordshire, Derbyshire border and have the Peak District on our doorstep. There are so many roads I can recommend (perhaps I’ll share more in a future edition) but wanted to highlight the joy that is the 13 bends, along the A619 near Hassop. We’ve ridden it a few times – including twice in the rain (when the chairwoman missed a turning). Sitting close to both Bakewell and Chatsworth House, it’s easy to pick up as part of a tour of Derbyshire.
Of course, if you’re in the area you may also want a pit stop. I can highly recommend Hassop Station Café which is a biker favourite. Alternatively head towards Chatsworth to visit the Edensor Tea Cottage which does a great afternoon tea.
If a historic stop is more your thing, you’ll be just moments from Eyam, famed for its decision to put the village into isolation to prevent the spread of the bubonic plague. There’s a museum you can visit on a weekend to find out more.
Happy riding!
