The ethos of the Club shall be that it is “by women, for women”, and as such, membership shall be limited to a) persons who have been female since birth and b) transgender women who have the protected characteristic of gender reassignment as defined in the Equality Act 2010:
A person has the protected characteristic of gender reassignment if the person is proposing to undergo, is undergoing or has undergone a process (or part of a process) for the purpose of reassigning the person’s sex by changing physiological or other attributes of sex [to female].
The Equalities and Human Rights Commission has published guidance on this statutory definition as follows: “[To have the protected characteristic of gender reassignment] you do not need to have undergone any medical treatment or surgery to change from your birth sex to your preferred gender.
You can be at any stage in the transition process, from proposing to reassign your sex, undergoing a process of reassignment, or having completed it. It does not matter whether or not you have applied for or obtained a Gender Recognition Certificate, which is the document that confirms the change of a person’s
legal sex.”
